About Ølfabrikken

olfabrikkenØlfabrikken was founded on December 1st 2004 by the two friends Martin Larsen and Christian Skovdal Andersen, and the brewery was located in Holløselund near Tisvildeleje in North Zealand. The brew house was located in a barn connected to the old Strandgård.

The first beer, a dark malted ale called Winter Ale, left the brewery in January 2005 and the beer was sold out within 2 days.

In the following years app. 80 different beers were brewed at Ølfabrikken, which equals an average of 3 new creations each month since the opening of the brewery. Ølfabrikken is the brewery in Europe who has launched the highest number of different beers.

Ølfabrikken’s beers have won several prices and beer tasting, which culminated in the beginning of 2006, where Ølfabrikken was elected as The Brewery of the Year (2005) and the beer Ølfabrikken Porter as Beer News of the Year (2005). Same year ratebeer.com nominated Ølfabrikken to the 28th best brewery in the world – out of 5800.

May 1st 2007 Ølfabrikken agreed on a joint venture with GourmetBryggeriet – a 50/50 % owned company between GourmetBryggeriet A/S and Ølfabrikken ApS, where Ølfabrikken’s brand and other intangible rights were injected. The General Manager of Ølfabrikken, Martin Larsen, decided not to continue in the new company, whereas brewer Christian Skovdal Andersen continued his responsibilities for the development of Ølfabrikken. At the same time the production of Ølfabrikken’s beers was moved to GourmetBryggeriet in Roskilde.

January 21st 2008 GourmetBryggeriet bought the remaining 50 % of the joint venture Bryggeriet Ølfabrikken ApS. At that time brewer Christian Skovdal Andersen decided to leave the company. Today GourmetBryggeriet continues to develop the brand Ølfabrikken in the same innovative and experimental spirit.
